Joshua Tree National Park
Palm Springs, CA

While at first glance the desert may seem like a virtual wasteland that has only a hint of vitality. Take a closer look however and you will see that the desert is actually home to hundreds of species of plants and animals. For that very reason Joshua Tree National Park is one of the most frequently visited spots in Palm Springs.

A majestic Joshua TreeWhile there is no central attraction like at other parks, there are two factors that go into making this park truly memorable. The Joshua Trees that grow in the area are plentiful and are know for their spiky texture. For those that aren't in to exploring the natural beauty of the Joshua Tree, you can try your hand at climbing one of the granite boulders that are 100 feet high. For those looking for a bit of guideance on their adventure, there are a handful of exciting Joshua Tree Park tours to choose from.  For a truly spooky time, try camping out over night and watch as the silhouettes of the Joshua Trees go from just odd and eerie to downright spooky and menacing.

To get a true feel of Joshua Tree National Park you have to understand that it is the meeting point for two totally different deserts and ecosystems. The Colorado desert takes up the eastern part of the park and features natural gardens of ocotillo and cholla cactus as well as creosote bush. The Mojave Desert is slightly elevated and has a moister and cooler feel to it. In addition to being home of the Joshua Tree, the Mojave has some of the most fascinating and wonderous geologic formations found in the California deserts. Five fan palms oases can be spotted along the park and are often an indication of where water can be found and where wildlife tend to congregate.

For those that first feel in love with U2's Joshua Tree album or those that simply look to be out in the middle of nature, the Joshua Tree National Park is one stop you have got to make in your lifetime.
