For those that still remember things such as fly ribbons, sarsaparilla, Mazda Lamps and Uneeda biscuits that came in the old cracker barrel, then a trip to Ruddy's General Store Museum is like a walk back in time.
One step through the entrance way and patrons are transported back to the 1930's and 40's. The store is an authentic recreation of the general store of those times and comes complete with signs, fixtures, hardware, clothing and products such as beauty aids, soaps, medicines and tobacco. Everything that is on display comes directly from Jim Ruddy who began his collection by picking up things from a Depression Era liquidator who had kept many of the items in his basement for the last 40 years. Ruddy's collection is now one of the largest in the country.
At Ruddy's, the staff takes great pride in the fact that they not only pay homage to the way that things have evolved, but also how some of the best things remained simple and are still that way today.
No matter if you are a collector, a history buff or just somebody that wants to go back to a simpler time, you will enjoy a truly memorable time at the museum. Just be sure to take a camera and capture those memories as much like the merchandise, they won't last forever.
